Revelation (Redemption of the Underworld) Page 13
Ryle panted heavily as he gently stroked my temple. “Please, Amberleigh, take the ambrosia. We’ll watch over you.” His warm breath tingled my cold skin.
My heart fluttered. “Yes.” I sucked in a breath, and my chest gurgled as I wheezed it back out. Mitch wiped his eyes. Leaning in, his soft goatee brushed my chin as his lips caressed mine. Would it be the first and last time I ever kissed him?
He gave me an encouraging smile, and then Athena knelt beside him. She pulled the stopper from the glass vial she held. “Ambrosia is a gift. You’ll never suffer again, my dear.” She placed the cool rim against my lips, and a bittersweet liquid trickled into my mouth. “Swallow it all, Amberleigh. Let it take you quickly.”
She slipped the empty vial in the top of her dress, and when I blinked, Sheila stared back at me, her white teeth a flash of brightness between her rosy lips. She stood. “Get her home.” She turned and walked away.
Ryle slipped one arm beneath my back and the other under my knees. He carefully lifted me.
“Easy. Watch her head.” Lucas removed his hand as Ryle put me in the back of the car.
I lay faceup in the back of the limo, my head cradled in Mitch’s lap. His thumb gently rubbed my brow. “Close your eyes, my love. Go to sleep. We’ll be here when you wake.” His voice—tender, fearful and loving. I knew what I had to do; I had a mission. Save the dead. Enable the souls trapped along the river’s edge to cross over. I never thought it would lead me to open my heart again, let alone to open it to three men. The engine revved and the car swerved. Mitch tightened his grip, holding me close.
I stared over his shoulder out of the rear window, and apple-green light filled the sky. It reminded me of the waves of the aurora and how it had lit up the figures huddled along the riverbank. What if I’d taken too long to consume the potion? I clung to my last, my only, hope: the ambrosia. If it didn't work, then this could be the last time I saw any of my guy’s gold-flecked eyes. The last time I drew breath.
The gentle stroke of Mitch’s touch faded. Had the ambrosia worked? Or had I condemned myself to wander the banks of the Styx?
The one thing I knew in my heart, if I survived: I’d never choose between them.
An inky darkness wrapped around me, drawing me into its depths, I succumbed to the warmth and was at peace.
The end... for now
About the Author
Australian Author S.A. Gibbs (aka Sharon), writes sexy, snarky, badass, reverse harem paranormal romance and fantasy.
Living in the City of Churches (aka Adelaide, South Australia) with her man, two cats, and three dogs, she spends her spare time writing fantastical stories full of amazing heroes, wonderful wizards, sinful sorceresses, hot blooded heroines and all things magical – and while her characters can be good, they like to be ever so bad as well. Her reverse harem series Redemption of the Underworld is wild and carefree while her fantasy series is a much tamer read. You’ll grow to love them all. Honestly.
When she’s not in her writing cave she’s usually working her, “to-pay-the-bills” job, at the local hospital. Netflix is a treat and she loves to read.
